With my mom back in town and staying at my aunt's because our place is too small (seriously!), we pretty much spend dinner at my aunt's place. And because mahjong is a favorite past time in our family, somehow we always end up playing. Well, I should say they. There's always enough people, so my sister and I head home first to play some Maple Story. Muahaha.

Anyway, last night my aunt was busy, so I took her place for a little bit. By little bit, I mean I played three games, which took about 30 minutes (or less). How much damage can three games cause? Well, in that 30 minute period, I managed to lose 220 nt. It was ridiculous. It was just not my night to be playing because all the tiles I got were either crappy or just added to the confusing mess that was my initial hand. UGH. As if that wasn't not bad enough, the three times I played, someone 自摸 (zi muo) each time (more specifically, my mom twice and my uncle once). Zi muo is when they choose the winning tile from the stacks themselves, which is harder than having someone throw them the winning tile. Which means, an even more expensive loss.

220nt's not that bad considering how other people have lost 1000+ nt, but that's the loss for the entire four rounds, not just three games (which isn't even a round!). If I had continued, I might have won that money back, but I sincerely doubt it because when I played for my mom while she talked on the phone, my luck wasn't any better when it came to the tiles I got (at least I didn't lose any of my mom's winnings. Phew!). I'm just bitter because I didn't do anything and yet I lost 200 nt. If I'd actually won a game or been the one to throw the winning tile, then it would make the loss so much easier to take. Sigh. Some nights, it's your night. Other nights, not so much.

One happier/funny thought I'll leave you with: 自摸 (zi muo) directly translated into English is "touch myself." :P
